Renown philanthropist and Chairmanship aspirant of Abeokuta South Local Government, Ogbeni Akano Yaya Kayode (AYK), has congratulated Mrs Olurebi Monilola, as she bows out of a 35 years tremendous teaching service.

AYK commended the retiring teacher for her services to various generations of Nigerians, whose lives she positively touched through her teaching practice over the years.

In a retirement publication titled ‘The Journey So Far’, signed by Mrs Olurebi Monilola, the professional teacher noted that she’s glad for bringing down the curtains on the journey of 35 years. She believes that her positive influence in the lives of people throughout her years in service earned her track records.

The statement reads in part;

“Like every story, there must be end. I’m glad to be bringing down the the curtains on the journey of 35 years. I’m officially retiring as a teacher today, but let it be known that throughout those years in service, I’ve mostly been a ‘student’, learning and relearning a lot of things. I’m glad that I’ve been able to influence the lives of a lot of people throughout the years and I definitely know i will be remembered for my track records. I don’t think I would have had any other job than be a teacher and I’m happy i enjoyed every moment of it through the ups and down.”

In a statement made available to GistIsland on Wednesday, AYK said that Mrs Olurebi Monilola, who he had known for years deserves to be celebrated, though Nigerian teachers were yet to be given their due recognition.

“I congratulates a good teacher, mother and mentor, who over the past decades, have been committed to the teaching profession in spite of several challenges.

”I acknowledge the essential roles of teachers in proving relevant and appropriate education, which serves as the springboard for training of our children, young people and adults in the society.”

AYK appealed to all stakeholders in the education sector to take a stand for the Nigerian teachers, especially the retired ones through motivation, provision of welfare packages and health insurances.

“Every other professional is a product of the teaching profession, teacher is the producer of every other professional who brings development and yet they are unseen in developmental process

“As Nigerians, we must take a stand for the teacher and as the incoming chairman of Abeokuta South, it’s time we also must stand up for the teacher,” AYK said.
