The Zone D leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students, has felicitated with children across South West on the occasion of the 2020 Children’s day.

The association message was contained in a press statement signed by the South West Zone Deputy Coordinator, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman ”Dan Fodio”. Dan Fodio charged children to be good ambassadors of their parents, shun vices and adhere strictly to Covid-19 preventive measures.

The statement reads: “In commemorating this year children’s day, the Deputy Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students, South West Zone, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman seize this opportunity to wish all Nigerian Students at the Basic and Secondary stage a Happy Children’s day celebration.

“The leadership of NANS, South West Zone join every Nigerian Students in this year’s children day celebration. We are grateful to the lord of ‘Áluta’ for preserving our lives to witness yet another special day dedicated to celebratef Children around the world.”

The statement further said: “This day for the children is an opportunity for them to express themselves and be happy that they are at this age and time, but for the adult, it is a time of sober reflection. Conventionally, it’s also a period marked with all kinds of social events and fun outings. Parents, management of basic and secondary schools, religious organisation, celebrities and various brands organize special programs to specially celebrate the children. It is however sad that this year has to be an exception because of the Novel disease ravaging the world.”

According to the Deputy Coordinator, It is pertinent that everyone adjust to this unpleasant but necessary trend of general restrictions and caution. He urged Basic and Secondary school children to join in fight against the virus.

“We must do everything to preserve our lives because we are the future. Hence, we must continue to consciously adhere to known guidelines and measures provided by the health practitioners as prevention is far better than cure in this period of COVID-19 pandemic and also against contacting the virus.”

Dan Fodio enjoined the children to always stay at home/indoor, avoid crowdy places, frequently was their hands and sanitize them. The use of nose mask and hand gloves, social distancing and general hygiene, these are all listed preventive methods to curtail the pandemic.

He further urged parents and guardians to be very responsible and compassionate at this time. Strive to create enablement for your wards to continue growing physically and academically. May the spirit of the season bring you all a succor for the burden.

“We therefore charge all students to diligently continue with all other alternatives to ‘in school’ learning. This including digital classes been aired on various broadcast media and the online classes. The times are really trying but as children, you also have a part to play.

“It is a popular believe that children are the heritage of God and He heeds to their call faster than He does with the older people. Hence, children should all continue to pray to him for the healing of our lands.”
